Maritime authorities from the Chinese mainland, Iran, Panama and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) signed Thursday a joint agreement to launch an investigation into the collision between oil tanker Sanchi and the CF Crystal.
On January 6, the Panama-registered Sanchi collided with the CF Crystal, a Hong Kong-registered freighter, off the shore of Shanghai. The Sanchi, carrying 111,130 tonnes of condensate, an ultralight highly-inflammable crude oil, went up in flames for over a week before it sank.
Thirty-two crew members aboard oil tanker, 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis, went missing after the collision. The bodies of only three crew members have been found.
