The Minnesota police officer who was found not guilty over shooting a black motorist will be paid a sum of 48,500 US dollars as he leaves the suburban department that employed him at the time of the killing, according to AP.
The Saint Anthony Village announced the separation agreement on Monday, saying "in order to serve the public interest and quickly assure the public that Officer [Jeronimo] Yanez will not continue as a St. Anthony police officer."
"The City concluded this was the most thoughtful way to move forward and help the community-wide healing process proceed," said the statement.
Details of the separation agreement were not openly released.
However, through a public information request, AP revealed that Yanez will receive up nearly 50,000 US dollars as part of the agreement for up to 600 hours of unused compensatory time.
Yanez, who has served at the St. Anthony Police Department since November 2011, was acquitted of all charges last month after fatally shooting a black motorist Philando Castile in 2016.
