China pays great attention to the peace process in Myanmar, and is willing to play a constructive role in this regard for the security and stability in their border areas, President Xi Jinping said Friday.
Xi made the remarks in Beijing while meeting with Myanmar's Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Sen-Gen Min Aung Hlaing.
Xi, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said the 19th CPC National Congress has made a blueprint for China's economic and social reform in years to come, which will not only inject great vitality to China's development, but also bring new opportunities to other countries around the globe, including Myanmar, to cooperate with China.
The friendship between the two countries has a long history, said Xi, adding that China and Myanmar should enhance strategic communication and look after each other.
China-Myanmar military relationship is at the best period in history, noted Xi, who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission.
Chinese government supports the two armies to boost exchanges and strengthen cooperation in all fields, and hopes the two armies continue to commit to regional peace and stability, he added.
Min Aung Hlaing, for his part, congratulated Xi on his re-election as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and the successful convening of the 19th CPC National Congress.
China and Myanmar are close neighbors, said Min Aung Hlaing. "Myanmar appreciates China's longtime help in national construction and military building and thanks China for supporting the peace process in Myanmar."
Nay Pyi Taw is willing to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen cooperation with Beijing in all fields, he added.
