We move to Tianjin and the opening day of the Asia Oceania Davis Cup tie. The winner between India and China moves on to the playoff of the World Group - so the main draw for next year. The visitors No. 1 player Ramkumar Ramanathan facing the host's rising star, 18-year-old Wu Yibing, in the opening singles match. Wu is a former junior world No. 1, and won US Open junior singles and doubles titles last year. But his opponent is ranked 200 places above him.
The 332-ranked Chinese clinches the opening set in a tie-breaker. The Chinese breaks Ramanathan in the third game of the second, which helps him take the frame 6-4, as the hosts take a 1-nothing lead in the team tally. In the second singles rubber, Zhang Ze's gritty 6-4, 6-1 triumph against Sumit Nagpal gives China a crucial 2-0 lead.  
Tomorrow, China's doubles duo of Gong Maoxin and Wu Di face multiple-Grand Slam winner Leander Paes, and former French Open mixed doubles champion Rohan Bopanna.
