The Indian army "ordered the evacuation" of a village close to the Donglang area, the site of a two-month standoff between Chinese and Indian troops on the border between the two countries, according to Indian media. But the Indian army and officials are now denying the reports.
The village of Nathang is 35 km from the site of the standoff and has a few hundred inhabitants, News18 said citing unspecified sources.
It was not immediately clear according to the news reports why the villagers were asked to vacate their houses. However that did not stop several theories being put forward by Indian media including; accommodating soldiers moving towards Donglang, or protecting citizens in the event of a skirmish.
Since the initial report of the evacuation came out the Indian army and Indian state officials have now denied that an evacuation order was ever issued.
The standoff in Donglang began in mid-June when China said the Indian military had trespassed into Chinese territory to block Chinese construction workers' access to the area for road repairs.
