On the first day of his visit to the US, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized economic cooperation. This is Modi's fifth visit to the US as prime minister, and he met CEOs of top American companies on Sunday, asking them to invest in India.
Modi held a roundtable conference with 21 CEOs, including Google's Sundar Pichai, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Apple's Tim Cook. Modi discussed a range of issues such as H1-B visas, investment and job creation. He also discussed the launch of a Goods and Services Tax which he called a game-changer that could well be a subject of study in American business schools.
US senators have urged President Trump to request that India eliminate trade and investment barriers for the country when he meets with Modi on Monday. US-India cooperation in multiple areas has been affected by India's high taxes and lack of protection in intellectual property rights.
