A movie premiered in South Korea this Thursday shed light on the movement opposing the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system being deployed in the country.
The movie Butterfly Effect is a documentary about the anti-THAAD movement in Seongju County, where the American missile defense system is being installed.
Park Moon-chil, the film’s director, said the new government in Seoul, which rose to power in elections following the ouster of South Korea’s first female leader Park Geun-hye, is struggling with several issues, the THAAD chief among them.
Some who saw the film have started to reconsider their positions regarding the deployment of the anti-missile system.
"They fight in order to protect their home and to get their peaceful life back. I was moved by the spirit the local people presented in the movie,” said one of the people at the premier.
