Muslims around the world began celebrating the three-day Eid-al-Fitr holiday on Friday, marking the end of Ramadan. Many Palestinians in Gaza chose to perform the mass Eid prayer along the Gaza-Israel border. Our correspondent Noor Harazeen in Gaza reports.
Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza joined Eid Al Fitr prayer in the return camps, which were established along the Gaza-Israel borderline during the Great March of Return protests.
Khalil Alhayaa, the deputy head of Hamas's political bureau, joined the prayer, and addressed the crowds in a speech, calling upon Palestinians to continue the return protests, and not to fear martyrdom.
KHALIL ALHAYAA HEAD OF HAMAS POLITICAL BUREAU "Thousands of people came here today, and we are joining you in this prayer. We are very close to our historical lands. We come here today to send a clear message to the occupier that we will continue our protests until we get our right of return to Palestine and Jerusalem, until we break the siege on Gaza."
Meanwhile in Gaza city and despite the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation in the coastal territory, Palestinians did not miss out on the celebration of Eid, and did their very best to seize moments of joy.
MOHAMMED SHAHIN CITIZEN "The economic situation in Gaza is catastrophic. However people are steadfast and they have hope that everything could be better in the near future. They try their best to bring the sense of happy Eid celebrations inside their homes. It's very important, especially for the children."
On the eve of the Eid festival, the markets were packed with shoppers. Muslims in Gaza say it must be the blessing of the holy days, and thanks to the Zakat al-Fitr which is paid by the rich to the poor and the needy, to help them enjoy Eid too. Noor Harazeen, CGTN, Gaza.
