China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with his counterpart from Papua New Guinea, Rimbink Pato.
Wang noted the two countries have made substantial progress in various fields over 42 years of diplomatic ties and he emphasized that Papua New Guinea is an important member of the Asia-Pacific family.
Wang added that China supports the upcoming APEC leaders meeting that Papua New Guinea will host in November. President Xi Jinping is expected to attend and the two sides will have the opportunity to strengthen exchanges.
Pato said his country will provide more support for the development of relations under the One-China Principle. And he said his country would like to cooperate with Beijing to speed up the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. The two sides also discussed various international and regional issues.
