Yao Gang, former vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and removed from public office for severe disciplinary violations, according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).
The case has been transferred to the judiciary, CCDI said.
A statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said the 55-year-old Yao abused his power to seek benefits for others and accepted "a huge amount" of bribes. Investigators say that Yao took advantage of his post to help individuals and companies in order to raise his standing in the eyes of influential political figures, and obstructed investigations.
