NPC holds press conference on China’s constitutional amendment

China's constitutional amendment is one of the important agenda items accomplished at the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), the national legislature, said Shen Chunyao, chairman of the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the 12th NPC Standing Committee, after China’s NPC adopted an amendment to the country's Constitution through secret ballots on Sunday.

Shen made the remarks at a press conference on China’s constitutional amendment during the annual session in Beijing.

China's constitutional amendments have been made in strict accordance with legal procedures, Shen said, adding that a total of 21 articles have been included in constitutional amendments and more than 200 people involved in supervising the voting process.

According to Shen, China's national legislature granted Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era constitutional authority in a landmark amendment on Sunday afternoon.

The supervisory commission has been listed as a new type of state organ in the Constitution.

According to Zheng Shuna, the Group’s deputy secretary and the Commission’s vice chairperson, the national supervisory commission will be the highest body of supervision.

Eleven of the 21 articles included in the constitutional amendments are related to the supervisory commission, which shows the commission's importance in the amendments, added Zheng.
