With a new year came a new head of the United Nations (UN). Antonio Guterres started his work as secretary-general at UN headquarters on Tuesday after predecessor Ban Ki-moon ended his second five-year term.
On the first working day, Guterres participated in a wreath-laying ceremony in memory of fallen UN staff.
Secretary-General Guterres sped between meetings at UN Headquarters.
Guterres served as Portuguese Prime Minister from 1995 to 2002 and headed the UN’s refugee agency from 2005 to 2015.
