Zhai Jun was appointed to be the new special envoy of the Chinese government to the Middle East effective this week. CGTN had an opportunity to interview him this morning. He points out that the situation in the Middle East is far from peaceful. For example, issues in the Palestinian region remain unsolved. Some countries in North Africa are also still in turmoil. And because many individual countries pursue unilateralism, and keep pressuring the middle east, Zhai says it is all taking a severely negative toll on the situation.
ZHAI JUN CHINESE GOVERNMENT'S SPECIAL ENVOY FOR THE MIDDLE EAST "We will deal with issues fairly and objectively. Second, we will uphold the fundamental interests of the people and of the region. And third, we will pursue the common interests of the international community. On this basis, we will actively engage and coordinate with all parties in the region to push them to handle and resolve differences through political means."
