The Chinese troops have cleared the last damaged main road hit by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Jiuzhaigou County in southwestern China's Sichuan Province Saturday morning.
The officers and soldiers of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force have finished the task 22 hours ahead of schedule.
Tsering, an excavator operator from the third traffic detachment of the armed police force, recalled a dangerous situation he experienced during the rescue work.
“A landslide occurred as I was clearing the road. Two big rocks as large as a pan landed in front of my excavator, which was not hit. The rocks fell between the shovel and my seat. I turned around, and after blocking two small rocks with the shovel, I ran to safety,” said Tsering.
As Tsering has to concentrate on the road surface, a safety officer is needed to watch out for any falling rocks from the mountain. In the event of danger, safety officer Ma Weiwei would blow the whistle to tell Tsering to evacuate immediately.
Tsering would also try to block the falling rocks with the help of the excavator.
