In Syria's Eastern Ghouta, Russia's military has offered safe passage for rebel fighters and their families. In a statement on Monday, the Russian defense ministry said it would provide transport and a secure corridor for rebels who agree to leave, and guarantee immunity from prosecution. But rebel groups accuse Russia of seeking to forcibly displace the local population. Aid trucks reached the eastern Ghouta region on Monday, the first since the start of one of the war's deadliest operations. The government stripped most medical supplies from the convoy, and pressed on with its air and ground assault. This caused the aid convoy to retreat.
