Rwanda's President Paul Kagame is the star of a new documentary, which has already been screened twice in the US. In it, Kagame takes viewers on a tour of Rwanda, showing off its various attractions. He's the first African president to feature in the latest edition of the Royal Tour Series.
It's a different side of Paul Kagame - The hands-on president turns tour guide. Kagame spent an entire week last year showing an American television around the country's best spots. Together with journalist Peter Greenberg, they went gorilla trekking through Volcanoes National Park. Jet-ski-ing in Lake Kivu. And went on safari through Akagera National Park. Rwanda is witnessing exponential growth in its tourism revenues - from $200 million in 2010 to above $400 million in 2016. There's no doubt the country has plenty to offer to international visitors. But Kagame want to make tourism and conservation about more than just money -He wants to ensure the benefits trickle down to local communities - And ensure the preservation of the country's ecological heritage. Rwanda: The Royal Tour will be screened in Kigali on Friday. Vauldi Carelse, CGTN, Nairobi, Kenya.
