Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Xiamen on Sunday for the BRICS Summit, which will be held in the coastal city from September 3 to 5.
Leaders from the five BRICS member states, as well as from Egypt, Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand, are gathering to discuss international cooperation and global governance.
In a signed article published on Friday, Putin expressed appreciation for China’s contribution as this year’s chair of the bloc, and stressed that Russia’s “constructive cooperation on the international arena is aimed at creating a fair multipolar world and equal development conditions for all.”
BRICS is the acronym for a group of five emerging market economies:  Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
