Belgian region with rooster associations celebrates China ties

The government of Belgian’s Walloon Region on Sunday presented a statue of a rooster, the region’s symbol, to the Chinese Embassy in Belgium to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Rooster.

A China-themed reception and parade was held in the Walloon city of Dinant upon the opening of a lunar year in which China and Belgium will be celebrating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Dignitaries including China’s ambassador to Belgium and the mayor of Dinant witnessed the presentation of the statue.

Rene Collin, Walloon’s minister of tourism, said the region has a strong relationship with China that will get stronger after this New Year event.
Sunday was the first time this parade has been staged in Belgium outside Brussels. It was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, the government of Dinant and Chinese community associations in Belgium.
