Russia says it's preparing to retaliate against what it describes as the "irresponsible" expulsion of its diplomats by the British government. The UK announced it was kicking out 23 Russian diplomats following the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil. The UK is also cutting off high-level contact with Moscow, among other measures announced Wednesday.

Britain is blaming Russia for the former spy's poisoning, and is urging its allies to take a stand against Moscow. In a joint statement, Britain, France, Germany, and the US said they shared the UK's assessment that, there was no plausible alternative explanation. The four nations added, Russia's failure to explain itself at Britain's request, further underlines Moscow's responsibility.
