Every year, the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania hosts a China summit. It's organized by the school's Chinese students. This year, the event is drawing even more attention than usual due to rising tensions between the US and China. Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Cui Tiankai, attended the Wharton summit responding to President Trump's assertion that China steals American jobs.
CUI TIANKAI CHINESE AMBASSADOR TO THE US "I believe that both Chinese and American workers have the right to enjoy work and to seek a better life. Such desires should be fulfilled. However, Chinese workers are not seeking jobs here in the United States. It is the result of global resource allocation of US companies, who seek the best for their interests. The United States has benefited a lot from that. US GDP doubled from 2001 to 2017. That is to say, United States' overall social benefits have vastly increased. On the other hand, why is that the living standards of many Americans have dropped under such circumstance. This is obviously a domestic problem, an issue caused by management. And now, somebody who is unwilling and unable to solve this problem wants to find a foe overseas. Such a method won't protect the benefits of American workers, but only serves the need of certain political interests."
