Christmas trees are getting a bit pricey in the US. The United States National Christmas Tree Association said that the average price of a tree will be about 10 percent higher than last year's average of 75 dollars.
Christmas is a traditional holiday for Americans and the Christmas tree is one of the key elements families use to decorate for celebrating.
NEW YORK RESIDENT "For me, it's a tradition."
However, the habit of buying a Christmas tree has been more costly in recent years. The National Christmas Tree Association showed that a real tree cost 75 US dollars on average last year. That was up 17 percent compared with 2015.
SALES MANAGER "The trucking fees almost doubled."
A supply shortage was the main reason for rising prices. The association said that Americans purchased more than 27 million real trees for Christmas in 2017, the same as in 2016. But on average, a tree needs 8 to 10 years to grow into one suitable for the holidays. Will an artificial tree be the solution for shortage? It is when you would like to spend 107 US dollars. A fake tree is even more expensive than a real one.
