Infrastructure is another focus of this year's G20 gathering. China and Argentina have been working together on the South American country's railway development for five years. An increasing number of "Made-in-China" carriages have been put into operation, bringing a new look and experience to Argentina's transportation system. Our reporter Zou Yun has the story.
In this busy and crowded railway station in the capital city of Argentina, more than 700 railway carriages from China transport passengers between Buenos Aires and its satellite cities. They've been here since 2014, as part of deals signed by the Argentinian government and CRRC—China's state-owned rolling stock manufacturer.
As Latin America's third largest economy, some of Argentina's outdated infrastructure has started to hamper the country's development. The CRRC is helping change that.
YANG TINGZHI, GENERAL MANAGER CRRC SIFANG ARGENTINA "The carriages before were mostly second-hand units from Europe and Japan, which means the technology and car performances were not very good. And the cars we brought here are equipped with the best technologies. We also improved the safety of car design in terms of collision and fire prevention. The carriages are also air-conditioned with comfortable seats designed based on body mechanics."
Not only are technologies and services being provided, but also cross-cultural experiences. The Chinese company is training local engineers to get advanced knowledge about train operations.
MATIAS CASTRO, ENGINEER TRAINS ARGENTINES OPERATIONS "The technology provided by CRRC is now the most advanced in Argentina. It's a very reliable, efficient and safe system. I hope the training from CRRC could help us to provide better services to the local people."
CRRC's high-quality technology, equipment and services has earned a 97% satisfactory rating from Argentinian passengers and around 300 million dollars' worth of additional contract from Argentina. The newly-purchased 200 cars will be delivered next year, helping to increase Argentina's transport capacity by 20 percent.
ZOU YUN BUENOS AIRES "These cars are now seen as some of the best examples of Chinese high-tech production. With more of them coming on line in Buenos Aires, they not only upgrade the city's overall transportation infrastructure, but provide faster, more pleasant and, of course, safer travel for Argentina's locals.
