5G network technology for communications could be 100 times faster than our current 4G systems. And 5G's take-over could also come sooner than you think, according to hardware makers and software developers. CGTN's Sun Ye has this report.
It's the 5G era, for gadgets and games. Chinese smartphone maker Oneplus says its 5G phones are expected to arrive in the UK and Finland before July.
PETE LAU FOUNDER & CEO, ONEPLUS "We started developing products with 5G technology as early as almost 3 years ago. That's why we are one of the first to release 5G cellphones in Europe. And in the next few years, we will definitely to be coming to rely on 5G products."
Oneplus is among a host of Chinese companies, including Huawei and ZTE to bet big on 5G. Untold inventive opportunities aside, Lau says the new-wave products could also boost the domestic market, which went through a lackluster first quarter 2019.
PETE LAU FOUNDER & CEO, ONEPLUS "The Chinese cellphone market is a bit slow for now, but I don't think there is too much to worry about. The fundamentals are still good, and 5G products' coming along is definitely a plus."
It's not just hardware makers. Content makers have also been ready for the shift the next-generation technology could bring. Zhihu, one of China's biggest Q&A platforms, says it's thinking of product revamping for 5G.
ZHANG NING VICE PRESIDENT, ZHIHU "We have a 5G plan starting this year. The technology might bring changes no one could have imagined. But we are certain of one thing: videos trump everything else."
He also expects more always-on-live-streaming to take up content creations as 5G technology promises much faster communication and enhanced computing power. According to China's major network carriers, 5G technology could become 'widespread' by 2020. SY, CGTN, BJ.
