Expert: Poverty alleviation is 'Two Sessions' priority

China’s Two Sessions season is almost here. CGTN’s The Heat interviews Sourabh Gupta, senior fellow of the Institute for China-America Studies ahead of the meetings of the top political leadership and lawmakers from across the country.
Gupta said poverty alleviation would be one of the important topics simply because it’s a pressing near-term goal.
He said many of the other goals can be marked out in a decade or more. But the commitment to eliminate absolute poverty by 2020 is very important.
And even when top economic adviser Liu He spoke at Davos, he talked about three critical battles, Gupta added.
Poverty alleviation is one of the three. "So it is a very important near-term priority and from that perspective, I think that would be a great focus,” he said.
