Have you ever wondered what the world was like from the perspective of Van Gogh? An exhibition is providing audiences with an immersive experience of the Dutch painter-- through sound, light shows and VR. The exhibition titled "Van Gogh Immersive Experience: Fantasy of the Inner World" is being held at the National Museum of China. Ding Siyue takes us there.
DING SIYUE BEIJING "Combining technology with art, this exhibition aims to give audiences a fully immersive experience. There are in total nine sections, covering topics ranging from Van Gogh's life experiences to his famous paintings."
Through 360-degree panoramic holographic video imaging technology, the exhibition perfectly restores more than 200 original works of Van Gogh and invites the audience to experience a multi-sensory art feast.
ORPHEE CATALDO DIRTY MONITOR "I hope by this immersive exhibition, visitors can feel the painter. This is neither a documentary nor a painting study. To me, it's an artistic adventure and allows people to feel closer to the artist through different artistic experiences.
With "stars" in the sky, surrounded by art works from different periods of Van Gogh, and from time to time stepping on a blooming sunflower. Just like magic, the post-impressionist painter's process of creating his work is presented like a three-dimensional movie in front of the audience.
DING SIYUE BEIJING "This is a replica of Van Gogh's room in France's Arles in 1888. Those familiar with his work, 'Bedroom in Arles,' will have a special feeling standing at this place."
The year in Arles was the richest year of Van Gogh's creativity. The seemingly bland scenery of Arles became the theme of his creation, where he created many of his famous works like the irises, sunflowers and starry sky. Another highlight of the exhibition is the VR segment.
DING SIYUE BEIJING "The virtual reality section gives audiences a chance to step into the location where Van Gogh created his works. Let's try it on."
Audiences can interact with the content of the scene in real time, sitting in front of "his window" to see how the scenery that fascinated the artist became masterpieces. In the interactive painting experience section, visitors can use their imagination and art expressions to create their own works.
"This is the first time for me to be in an immersive exhibition. It's very different from the exhibitions I've been to before, and I really enjoyed it. I don't know how to paint, but being in this atmosphere, I just feel like sitting here and painting."
Visitors have until September 22nd to check out this exhibition. DSY, CGTN, BJ.
