Chinese President Xi Jinping regards reading as a fundamental part of life, and over the past five years has quoted literary masters and statesmen from around the world to help convey China’s diplomatic message.
Xi’s use of pertinent quotes has also promoted the concept of "a community of shared future for all humankind", first proposed during the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in November 2012.
Fast-forward five years and the 19th CPC National Congress will convene on October 18 in Beijing.
The congress will review the Party's progress, as well as map out guidelines and policies at a crucial time for China, as the country strives to achieve a moderately prosperous society at home and make further diplomatic strides overseas.
President Xi has made 28 foreign trips to 56 countries and major international and regional organizations across the world since 2012, and regularly selected meaningful quotes from the host nations to express China’s diplomatic priorities.
