The US Navy confirmed on Monday that all seven missing sailors from the USS Fitzgerald had been found dead after the destroyer collided with a Philippine merchant vessel off the coast of Japan early Saturday morning.

The collision happened at 2:30 a.m. local time, when the USS Fitzgerald was operating about 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan.
Heavy damage could be seen to the mid-right side of the Navy ship but there was no danger of the ship sinking, according to a US official.
