During a recent campus recruitment event in Shanghai, a modern hoggery company went viral online with its surprisingly attractive annual income for new recruits, ranging from 240,000 to 480,000 yuan per year (approximately 36,254 - 72,508 US dollars).
Even in big cities like Beijing and Shanghai, excellent graduates from few top universities may get an average salary of 8,000 a year (approximately 1,200 US dollars).

As for the pig farm job, some candidates took it as a rather promising career. Zhanglin, a post graduate majoring in agriculture and biology, said “I am not a sociable person, this job sounds good for me. If there are offers with same salary, I think I will definitely choose this one.”
However, some students were bothered, for they thought the salary was a little bit inflated. When students looked at the pay plan posted on WeChat, the promised high payment was only for the first year.
“What about next year? Will the payment be less since it was not mentioned yet in the briefing materials?” asked a student who attended the information session.
What’s more, there were other details that kept them pondering whether the offer was legitimate. Some graduates who had already taken interviews said it was held in hotel rooms, which seemed unprofessional. And frequent interruptions during their talks made them feel not respected by the company.
The traditional Chinese recruitment season usually starts from October to April. With the help of universities’ career centers, many top global and local companies will do rounds of recruitment on the campuses of top universities, hunting for the best candidates.
To choose or not to choose, that’s the question for those confused graduates.
