China-Japan Relations: Background of high-level economic dialogue
[]
China and Japan established the economic dialogue mechanism in 2006.
The first meeting was held in 2007 when the two sides agreed to work towards economic integration in East Asia. Two years later, in the shadow of the global financial crisis, the two sides agreed that stepping up the development of bond markets was a priority. The last meeting was held in 2010 when the two countries discussed recovery of the world economy. Bilateral relations have been improving since last November, and the dialogue is being resumed after eight years of suspension. Foreign Ministers Wang Yi and Taro Kono are expected to talk about increasing investment in new economic models to bring in new growth momentum.
