An exhibition of artifacts from 13 countries along the ancient Silk Road is underway in Beijing. It's made possible by the joint efforts of the national museums in those countries. CGTN's Ding Siyue has more.
The exhibition hosted by the National Museum of China aims to show the history of human migration, economic and trade exchanges, culture and art, science and technology in those countries, linked together by the ancient Silk Road.
WANG CHUNFA, DIRECTOR NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CHINA "The National Museum of China held the first conference on the International Alliance of Silk Road museums last year, and signed a cooperation framework agreement. This exhibition is launched based on the agreement. It is the largest exhibition of this kind."
The exhibition is divided into two parts, namely the Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road. A total of 234 sets of artifacts are showcased, of which 188 are brought by the 12 foreign national museums.
YAN ZHI, DEPUTY DIRECTOR INTL. LIAISON DEPARTMENT, NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CHINA "We have a spear from the Russian Turbino Culture in our collection. We put it with the Russian items, to show visitors the value of the spread of ideological beliefs."
Among the antiquities is a Kazakhstan "golden warrior" with over 400 pieces of gold sequins. It is a very representative artifact from the Scythians culture. A set of Iranian porcelain with Chinese styles also reveals the rich cultural exchanges between China and countries along the ancient Silk Road.
DING SIYUE BEIJING "Through these carefully chose relics, audiences can feel the rich cultural backgrounds of the belt and road countries and learn more about the history of cultural integration."
The exhibition gains great feedback from other museum experts.
Visitors have until July 14 to check out the exhibit. Ding Siyue, CGTN, BJ.
