At least two people were killed after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit the central Philippine province of Leyte on Thursday, local media reported.
Kananga City reported one death, and the other was reported from Ormoc City, which is near the epicenter.
40 people were also sent to hospital after the earthquake, though most of the injuries were caused by the panic which ensued, said Mayor Richard Gomez of Ormoc City.
The airport in Ormoc is now closed, with all Ormoc-bound flights on Friday canceled due to the damaged runways.
The earthquake also caused a power outage in Ormoc.
The quake rocked eight kilometers southwest of Jaro in Leyte Province at 4:03 p.m. with a depth of two kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Aftershocks were expected but tsunamis following the quake were ruled out.
