Chinese premier, Austrian president affirm multilaterism

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has called on Austria to jointly promote liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment, oppose any form of protectionism, and safeguard the multilateral trading system.
Li made the remarks during the meeting on Sunday with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen who is on a state visit to China.
"Austria is an important partner of China in Europe," the premier said. "China is willing to seize the opportunity with Austria, pushing development strategies, deepening cultural exchanges and cooperation, and improving the level of bilateral relations."
Li also stressed that China is willing to work with Austria to expand trade and investment, and strengthen cooperation in high-end manufacturing, technological innovation, energy saving and environmental protection within the Belt and Road Initiative and 16+1 framework.
Van der Bellen said that Austria attaches great importance to Sino- Austrian relations and is willing to further expand economic cooperation between the two countries.
"Austria supports global trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, maintaining a multilateral trading system," he added.
