The 13th National People's Congress held the sixth plenary meeting of its first session this morning. Li Keqiang was approved as the Premier of China by NPC deputies. Lawmakers also voted on some other key posts, including vice chairpersons and members of the Central Military Commission and head of the new state organ supervisory commission. Zou Yun reports.
Swearing an oath to the Constitution, Li Keqiang was endorsed as Chinese premier at the ongoing session of the 13th National People's Congress.
LI KEQIANG CHINESE PREMIER "I swear loyalty to China's Constitution, to uphold its authority, fulfill my legal responsibilities and be loyal to the country and its people. I will accept public supervision, be dedicated in my work, have integrity and always work in the public interest. I will strive to help build a great modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful."
Li Keqiang was firstly endorsed as the country's Premier 5 years ago by the 12th National People's Congress. He has extensive experience of working as the Party's Secretary in the provinces of Henan and Liaoning. The combined experience of working at provincial level as well as central government organization gives him a comprehensive understanding of China. His PHD in economics also proves valuable in providing a knowledge base in governing the nation and deepening reforms.
Moreover, some other key posts are also endorsed by NPC deputies. These include Xu Qiliang and Zhang Youxia as vice chairmen of the Central Military Commission, Zhou Qiang as president of the Supreme People's Court, Zhang Jun as Procurator-General and Yang Xiaodu as director of the newly established National Supervisory Commission.
