The local government of southwest China's Sichuan Province made a swift response to a 7.0-magnitude earthquake and after shocks that hit Sichuan's Jiuzhaigou County on Tuesday, with its emergency response mechanism fully mobilized.
In coordinated efforts under a promptly set up commanding center for relief efforts, the Sichuan fire department deployed over 20 search and rescue dogs, 1,200 firefighters with 55 life detectors, as well as more than 900 Chinese Armed Police Force officers to the scene. Four medical teams have either arrived at Jiuzhaigou or on the way there.
And, to best reduce the inconvenience caused by the disaster to the residents of the provincial capital Chengdu and other areas affected, great efforts have been made and, as a result, the power supply, communications service and water supply have been restored first in Chengdu, the pivot of the current relief efforts.
Sichuan's transportation department has allocated a dozen heavy machines and over 70 workers to clear from both sides the road leading to Jiuzhaigou, which was blocked by landslides triggered by the quake and following jolts.
Railway service has been resumed on various railway lines through Sichuan, including Baoji-Chengdu railway and Lanzhou-Chongqing railway. And the airports in Jiuzhaigou and Chengdu are in normal operation, a good news for the all-around disaster relief operations.
