There is a sea of differences between the tones and plans given by the President of the US and the President of China to the Asia-Pacific region. For President Trump, he pledged continuity of the US policies towards the region: friends, partners, and allies. But his blueprint just doesn’t add up, blaming everything and everyone and wrapping it up with the slogan “America First." Chinese leader Xi Jinping though, offered a totally different set of messages: deliverables for those in other parts of the world, support for more regional and multilateral trade mechanisms, further reform and opening up with a bigger and freer market.
