Pandas in Finland: Two pandas on loan from China settle in at Ähtäri Zoo
[]
Two giant pandas on loan from China have made their debut at Ahtari Zoo in central Finland after a month-long quarantine. Hua Bao and Jin Bao Bao play in the snow, climb trees and seem to be quite happy with their new home.
The three-and-a-half-year-olds arrived in Finland on January 18th and have been given Finnish names. The female is called Lumi, meaning snow, and the male is called Pyry, meaning heavy snowfall.
The zoo is organizing an official opening ceremony for the pandas on March 3rd. Ahtari Zoo has rented pandas from China for 15 years. The zoo hasn't revealed the fee, but it's estimated to be about one million euros a year.
