Israel has defended its soldiers for shooting hundreds of Palestinians who were demanding the right to return to their land. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hit back at criticism from Turkish President Erdogan, saying on Twitter that Israel's army is more moral than Turkey which has been bombing civilians for years.
Israel also rejected calls for an inquiry into the killing of Palestinians, alleging that some of them had fired at soldiers and hurled fire bombs toward the Gaza-Israel border. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been gathering along the border since Friday. Israeli military snipers responded with live fire, killing 17 people and wounding over a thousand.
