One of China's best chances to get on the podium at the IAAF World Indoor Championships will be in the men's 60 meter sprint where Su Bingtian comes in having recently won the World Indoor Tour title while setting the Asian record in the event of 6.43 seconds. His good results will provide a big boost of confidence as Su is aiming to capture his first medal at the Worlds.
Su will be joined by Xie Zhenye in the 60 meters. Su has been preparing by doing some basic exercises to help maintain his good form. The Chinese had four consecutive wins in the IAAF Indoor Tour and broke the Asian 60 meter record twice. Su's target in Birmingham is the gold, but he's trying not to let the pressure get to him.
Xie also did well in the recently concluded IAAF World Tour with a second place finish in Boston and third in New York. He had his best result of 6.54 seconds in the Big Apple and hopes to run even faster at these Worlds.
The schedule for today will see China's Wei Yongli and Liang Xiaojing compete in the women's 60 meter preliminaries. Gong Lijiao and Gao Ying will do their thing in the women's shot put, while Shi Yuhao and Huang Changzhou are up in the men's long jump final.
