It's that time of year again - the tech season. And that means the Consumer Electronics Show Asia in Shanghai. Our Mi Jiayi had a lot of fun at the show last year, so what has she found this time that's interesting?
This year at CES Asia, it seems like there is something smart and cool for everyone. If you are determined to be a vlogger, you can find the latest video making equipment here. If you are a gym rat, there's something electronic to help you relax your muscles. And if you want to work from home and not go to the office, here's the way to do it.
FRANK ZHANG, PRODUCT DIRECTOR LAVATECH "This company focuses on tele-presence, it's a remote tele-presence product. There's no limit in terms of distance, this unit is connected to the wifi, and the other end, me, is called the pilot. I'm controlling from anywhere as long as I have internet."
But Mr Zhang says there are some limits, however. Since the product doesn't have arms, it cannot open doors or push buttons. And there is always the risk that someone will try to take away your telepresence in the middle of a conversation. But there are products in the CES Asia that can make opening doors and pushing buttons more easy for you - when you play VR games - by freeing your hands from the control console.
FLORIAN RENAULT 3DRUDDER "So the products have many advantages, so first you move in VR just like in real life with your feet, your hands are completely free from the management of the move and motion, and you can interact more with the environment, so you can grab, shoot, open doors, pick up projects from the floor, so it's a more immersive and interesting way to navigate in VR. For instance, people with upper body disability they can use it as a mouse and can play any game even if they have only one hand."
Like this company, a handful of firms are new to CES Asia this year. Many came as groups of exhibitors from other countries, including France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and South Korea. They are here to see the market and explore its potential.
MI JIAYI SHANGHAI "One big highlight this year is automobile technology. More than 50 companies are showcasing auto-related features, including auto-piloting, auto driving and smart connectivity systems. They take up an area that's 50 percent larger than last year."
Most of the auto tech is being shown Hall N5, and it looks pretty much like a small auto show. Why are there so many cars at an electronics show? Well, one automaker says, to put it simply, cars in the future will be just "smart devices on wheels". Companies want to be bold to attract customers.
CARSTEN BREITFELD, CO-FOUNDER BYTON "This car will be the first level 4 autonomous driving car coming to the market from Byton. And you need a lot of sensor technology like you see, lighter, cameras, and radars, and as a car company, you have to decide do you want to hide this technology, or do you want to use it as a design element, so we decided to use sensors as design elements, so you can find interpretations here can be on the roofline as lighters. Also these lighters on the side. Let the car show, I'm autonomous, I'm high tech, I'm connected."
This year's CES Asia will run from today through Friday. It will be open to the public on the last day. ICS Mi Jiayi CGTN SHANGHAI
