Just as China is home to breathtaking sights and a vibrant array of things to see and do, Brazil and Argentina are hosts to their own share of the world's wonders.
And now the pair seek to do more to attract visitors from the worlds' largest group of international tourists -- the Chinese.
The South American countries are preparing a joint tourism promotion program in China to attract more visitors from the Asian giant, official sources announced Wednesday. That includes  a joint promotion tour in the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou among others.
The president of the Brazilian tourism institute, Embratur, Vinicius Lummertz, and the Argentinean tourism minister, Gustavo Santos, met in London on Wednesday during the World Travel Market in London and express these wishes to draw more vacationers from China, as Chinese tourists begin to shift from shopping spree-centered holidays towards more adventurous locations and exploring exotics places of interest.
Of roughly 100 million tourists who ventured outside China's borders annually in recent years, less than 60 thousand went on trips half way across the globe, to Brazil, or a meager less than 0.01 percent.
Besides the transcontinental flight, a long standing visa hurdle is another factor that is discouraging Chinese citizens from placing Brazil and Argentina on their list of travel destinations in the near future.
Santos also asked the Brazilian government to adopt "a more flexible policy in terms of the visa demands for China tourists."
"The Chinese market is very large and is growing. We have the problem of distance, but the joint initiative makes everything easier, with lower costs and simplified logistics. From the start, we and Argentina have considered that, since Asian and American travelers to Europe visit two or more countries, why not offer the same in South America," commented Lummertz.
Santos added that "while they have the Great Wall, one of the wonders of the world, we have the Iguazu Waterfalls, another marvel. We are brothers through this and we need to bring our people together, and promote all this more."
