At least 50 people have been killed and over 400 injured in a shooting massacre in the US city of Las Vegas. The shooter has been identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock from Mesquite, Nevada.
Police emphasized that the current death toll is still "tentative", making this the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history, eclipsing last year's massacre of 49 people at an Orlando nightclub.
CGTN talked to Richard Weitz, a Senior Fellow and Director at the Hudson Institute's Center for Political-Military Analysis in Washington, DC, about the nature of the shooting and possible reasons why there have been frequent reports of gun attacks in the US in recent years. CGTN correspondent Phil Lavelle from Los Angeles also talked about the identity of the gunman and his possible motive.
