[]
Targeted poverty alleviation has been a main topic at this year's Two Sessions. President Xi has paid continued attention to the subject in over 25 significant speeches and reports, and generated his views on poverty alleviation, from over 30 visits to poverty-stricken areas over the past 5 years.
On December 29th last year, President Xi addressed the importance of fighting poverty at the Central Rural Work Conference. He said poverty alleviation should be put at the top of the agenda. He also said attention should be paid to helping people increase confidence in their own ability, to lift themselves out of poverty. He also said that access to education should be deepened.
President Xi's views on poverty alleviation come from his continuous field visits to poverty-stricken areas in China.
On December 29th, 2012, only 40 days after becoming the General Secretary, Xi Jinping went to Fuping county, in Hebei Province, where he mentioned poverty alleviation should be carried out in light of the reality.
On November 3rd, 2013, President Xi spoke about realistic development, basic welfare, and child education, in his meeting with local people, in a small village in Hunan Province.
In January 2014, the president visited staff in Aershan Town, Inner Mongolia, and said poverty alleviation is the responsibility of society overall.
And In 2015, he reaffirmed the confidence in fighting poverty at the central rural work conference, and blew the horn for a new stage of poverty alleviation. From then on, his steps continue from north to south, and east to west, further viewing the reality of poor areas across the nation, and gradually forming his view on this difficult, but great cause.
