Xi congratulates Merkel on her re-election as German Chancellor

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday congratulated Angela Merkel on her re-election to fourth term as German Chancellor.
Lawmakers voted by 364 to 315, with nine abstentions, in favor of re-electing Merkel, earlier on Wednesday.
Xi said he attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations between China and Germany, noting that he is willing to consolidate the two countries' strategic mutual trust with Merkel.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang also congratulated Merkel.
China is willing to work with the new German government to promote the development of bilateral ties and cooperation, said Li.
