In Ghana, an artist has found an innovative way of using tree branches to make furniture instead of as firewood. He not only PRESERVES nature, but does it in an artistic way. Nabil Ahmed Rufai has the details.
These branches serve as firewood for many. But Emmanuel Boadu sees them as precious raw material for his art.
EMMANUEL BOADU ARTIST "I select the wood from other woods that are not hard. Especially for furniture, beds and other things I use orange or guava. Aside that I treat them so it can last for long."
Emmanuel says it's taken years to perfect his product. A set of furniture costs 600 dollars.
NABIL AHMED RUFAI ACCRA, GHANA "It takes Emmanuel up to a day to make a piece such as this. He hopes to train more people in this craftsmanship in order to meet the demand."
And his customers are satisfied.
NII NORMAN CUSTOMER "This is unique and you can't find this anywhere else. So you buy one and it's almost like it's tailor-made for you."
Emmanuel has big dreams for his unique furniture.
EMMANUEL BOADU ARTIST "I hope to export these products from Ghana one day."
And as Emmanuel gets more creative with his furniture, he plans to hold an exhibition of his pieces to show them off as works of art. NABIL AHMED RUFAI, CGTN, ACCRA GHANA.
