The first round of a new China-US Diplomatic and Security Dialogue (D&SD) will be held in the Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, the Chinese foreign ministry said.
The talks are based on a consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump earlier this year.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi will co-chair the D&SD with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
The two sides will have an in-depth exchange of views on China-US relations and other important issues of mutual interest, said Lu, adding that China stands ready to work with the United States to promote the D&SD to achieve positive outcomes.
