With the world waiting to see what Donald Trump’s attitude to Xi Jinping’s China will be when he takes the Oval office, the US president-elect may do well to speak to some of the Americans who know Xi best. In 1985, nearly 30 years before he became Chinese president, Xi led an official delegation to Muscatine, Iowa and lived for a few days with the Dvorchak family. In an exclusive interview, Gary Dvorchak reflects upon the few days the Chinese president spent living there, and the fascinating exchange of gifts between his parents and their Chinese guest. Gary said he wants to tell Trump that this Chinese leader has a real personal friendship with common Americans.
