The Ministry of Agriculture on August 17 said the contaminated eggs scare in Europe posed no threat to the Chinese mainland. No European country has the approval to export eggs to the Chinese mainland. Fipronil is an insecticide that kills lice and ticks but is banned from being used on animals that could be consumed by humans and the chemical can cause damage to the kidneys, liver and thyroid if ingested in large quantities.
