Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed to hold the next summit on Syria in Istanbul alongside Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during their phone discussion on Thursday, according to a Turkish presidential source.
Erdogan and Putin also agreed to increase coordination between the two countries' military and security services in Syria as part of the fight against terrorism, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov later said, although a summit has been determined, the exact date has yet to be agreed upon.
According to the Turkish source, the two leaders also discussed the Turkish offensive against Syrian Kurdish militia in northwestern Syrian region of Afrin.
The last Syria summit attended by leaders from Turkey, Russia and Iran was held on November 22, 2017 in Russia's Sea city of Sochi.
The summit, if goes ahead as planned, will be the latest show of increasingly intense situation between Ankara and Moscow over Syria.
