Death toll rises to 28 in gym building fire in Jecheon, South Korea

The death toll jumped to 28 as rescue workers searched a scorched, smoke-filled commercial building in the southern South Korean city of Jecheon after a fire broke out on Thursday afternoon, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing local firefighters.
The people were found dead after being trapped in the sauna on the second and third floors.

Another 26 people were injured, mostly from inhaling smoke, and sent to hospitals for treatment.
Earlier, some 20 others were rescued from the rooftop where they were taking refuge from the fire.
The death toll could possibly increase as the rescue work continues, according to Yonhap.

At least 16 people were killed and over 10 others injured in a fire that engulfed a commercial building in the southern South Korean city of Jecheon on Thursday, Yonhap reported.
The fire started in a vehicle in the basement parking lot of an eight-story fitness center in the city, about 170 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The victims were in a public sauna on the second floor of the building.
About 20 fire engines and 50 firefighters were sent to the scene.
