Kite makers from around the world have gathered on the small island of Fanoe, off the west coast of Denmark, for the biggest kite meeting in the world.
Some 25,000 of their creations are expected to fill the sky above the 700-meter wide beach, as craftsmen from countries including Norway, Germany, Japan and the US make the most of a steady wind coming from the Wadden Sea. Fanoe is known as one of the very best places in the world for kite flying thanks to its optimal weather conditions.
With the festival running from Thursday to Sunday, 5,000 visitors have temporarily swelled the population of an island that is usually home to 2,700.
